John Akii-Bua

Age: 47

winner of the gold medal in the 400m hurdles at the 1972 Olympics; set a world record in winning the event with a time of 47.82 seconds; remains the only Ugandan to win Olympic gold in track and field; unable to defend his title in 1976 because Sblack African nations boycotted the Montreal Olympics; at his death Akii-Bua was a senior superintendent with the Ugandan police department; cause of death unknown
