Succeeding his father, Brig. Gen. David Sarnoff, who is considered one of the fathers of network television, Robert diversified communications company RCA, buying the publisher Random House, car rental company Hertz and Banquet foods. With profits diminishing and unrest at upper levels, he was ousted from the company in 1975.
