LaVern Baker

R&B singer

Baker, an influential blues musician of the 1950s, saw her career flag in the 1960s but made a triumphant return in the late 1980s. Her recordings, which mixed gospel and blues, include “Tweedlee Dee,” “Jim Dandy” and “I Cried a Tear.”
