Wesley Clark, retired four-star general, threw his hat into the race for the Democratic presidential nomination in September. The former supreme allied commander of NATO has never held elective office. He led U.S. and allied troops in NATO's war in Kosovo in 1999, and retired from the military in 2000 after 34 years of service.
