Metauro

Metauro (mātou'rō) [key], river of the Marches, c.68 mi (110 km) long, rising in the Etruscan Apennines, central Italy, from a double source (the Meta and the Auro) and flowing NE into the Adriatic Sea near Fano. On its banks the Romans defeated (207 B.C.) the Carthaginians under Hasdrubal in the Second Punic War.
