Anguisciola or Anguissola, Sofonisba (sōfōnēs'bä äng"ēshō'lä, -sōlä) [key], 15321625, Italian painter, b. Verona, Italy. Born to a noble family, she studied first with Michelangelo and painted primarily portraits of herself and her family members.
