Vratsa

Vratsa (vrä'tsä) [key], city (1993 pop. 76,947), NW Bulgaria, in the foothills of the Balkan Mts. It is a commercial and crafts center and a railway junction. Vratsa has textile, metal processing, chemical, and ceramics industries. It was an administrative and garrison town under Ottoman Turkish rule (15th–19th cent.).
