Littré, Maximilien Paul Émile

Littré, Maximilien Paul Émile (mäksēmēlyăN' pōl āmēl' lētrā') [key], 180181, French lexicographer. Known as a positivist philosopher and as professor of history and geography at the École polytechnique, Littré is best remembered for his dictionary of the French language (5 vol., 1863–72), for his translation of Hippocrates, and for his works in medical history.
