Kecskemét

Kecskemét (kech'kemāt) [key], city (1991 est. pop. 103,600), central Hungary, in a fruit-growing region. It is a county administrative center, a road and rail hub, and a manufacturing city whose industries produce food products, textiles, and agricultural machinery. Known since the 4th cent., the city has several churches, a museum, and a law school with a large library. The Hungarian dramatist Joseph Katona was born in Kecskemét.
