Farnesina

Farnesina (färnāzē'nä) [key], villa in Rome, Italy, built (1508–11) by Peruzzi for the banker Agostino Chigi at the foot of the Janiculum on the right bank of the Tiber. One of the finest examples of Italian Renaissance architecture, it is famous for its frescoes by Raphael and his pupils. It was long the residence of the Farnese family.

See P. d'Ancona, The Farnesina Frescoes at Rome (1955).
