EncyclopediaBeets, NicolaasBeets, Nicolaas (nē'kōläs bāts) [key], 1814–1903, Dutch author. He translated Byron into Dutch and was fairly well known as a poet when his Camera Obscura (1839), published under the pseudonym Hildebrand, won great popularity.
