Barnegat Bay (bär'nugăt) [key], arm of the Atlantic Ocean, c.30 mi (50 km) long, E N.J., inside Long Beach Island and Island Beach Peninsula. It is a heavily used recreational asset in an area that has boomed since the 1950s.
