Aschersleben

Aschersleben (ä'shurslā"bun) [key], city (1994 pop. 30,490), Saxony-Anhalt district, central Germany. An industrial city, it manufactures machine tools, chemicals, iron and steel, and woolen goods. There are lignite, salt, and potash mines nearby. Aschersleben was probably founded in the 11th cent. and passed to Prussia in 1813.
