Brenneman, who also serves as executive producer, loosely based the series on her mother, who's a Connecticut Supreme Court judge. Brenneman plays a lawyer who leaves the big city for a job as a juvenile court judge. Amy and her young daughter move in with her judgmental, overbearing mother (Daly).
