This spry comedy revolves around scheming prep-school sophomore Max Fischer (Schwartzman) and his mentor, the childish millionaire Mr. Blume (Murray). President of every club on campus, Max suffers from no lack of ambition. This pubescent megalomania leads him to passionately pursue the new teacher (Williams), who has started to attract the more feasible attentions of Blume the tycoon. Needless to say, Max is enraged and small-scale war breaks out between the boy and man. The energetic script steers clear of cliches as it investigates the hyperbolic battlefield of boyhood. The best performance by Murray in a long time further strengthens Rushmore's fresh filmmaking.
