Cube| Director: | Vincenzo Natali | | Writer: | Andre Bijelic | | Trimark; R; 91 minutes | | Release: | 9/98 | | Cast: | Nicole de Boer, Nicky Guadagni, David Hewlett, Andrew Miller, Wayne Robson and Maurice Dean Wint |
This Twilight Zone-like film about six people trying to escape a maze of ugly, windowless cubes is surprisingly unclaustrophobic. The detainees, a math wiz (de Boer), a cop (Wint), a criminal (Robson), a psychiatrist (Guadagni), an architect (Hewlett) and an autistic man (Miller), don't know exactly how they got into the situation, though they have their ideas. They are sure they must break free, which is no easy task since some of the rooms are booby trapped with deadly contraptions. As can be expected under the circumstances, there's plenty of cooperation as well as squabbling among the group as they reveal their true personalities.
