Ronaldo

Born: Sept. 22, 1976
Soccer

Brazilian forward who has been compared to the great Pele; signed with a first division club in Brazil, Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte, before he was 18 and scored 58 goals in 60 games; named to the Brazilian National Team when he was 17; named FIFA Player of the Year in 1996 and '97; European Player of the Year in '97; named 1998 World Cup MVP; led Brazil to World Cup victory in 2002, scoring 8 times in the tournament including both of Brazil's goals in its 2-0 win over Germany in the final. In 2006's World Cup, he surpassed German Gerd Mueller's record 14 World Cup goals.
