An actor who has primarily appeared in foreign and independent films such as The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover (1989) and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (1990), he is best known for his part in Rob Roy (1995), for which he received an Oscar nomination. Having begun his acting career in high school, he continues to turn in solid performances across a range of character types, appearing in films as varied as violent crime dramas like Reservoir Dogs (1992), Pulp Fiction (1994), Hoodlum (1997) and Gridlock'd (1997) and musical comedies like Woody Allen's Everyone Says I Love You (1996). His latest is an appearance in Planet of the Apes (2001).
