Film and television actor, comedian, director and producer. Appearing in comedy clubs and on cable TV, Lawrence was first noticed by Spike Lee and given a small role in Do the Right Thing (1989). When Fox offered him his own sitcom, he came up with Martin, a show about a Detroit disc jockey and his girlfriend. Lawrence had some highly publicized mental and/or drug problems in 1996, and was accused of sexually harassing his Martin co-star Tisha Campbell at the end of the same year. He was writer-producer-director of the feature film A Thin Line Between Love and Hate (1996) and starred opposite Tim Robbins in Nothing to Lose (1997). His other films include Bad Boys (1995) and its 2003 sequel Bad Boys II, Blue Streak (1999), Big Momma's House (2000) and Big Momma's House 2 (2006).
