Robert Brustein director, drama critic, playwright Born: 4/21/1927 Birthplace: New York City
As Dean of the Yale School of Drama (1965–79), he founded the Yale Repertory Theatre. After leaving Yale, he moved to Harvard, where he founded the American Repertory Theatre. He has served as drama critic at the New Republic since 1959, and has published numerous books of theater criticism and commentary, including The Theatre of Revolt (1964), Who Needs Theatre? (1986), and Dumbocracy in America (1994).
