Film and stage actress whose film credits include Face/Off (1997), The Ice Storm (1997), The Crucible (1996), Nixon (1995), and Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993). She was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her work in The Crucible and Nixon , as well as a Best Actress Oscar for her performance in The Contender (2000). She won a Tony Award for her Broadway debut in Burn This. Her film career continues in high gear as she had three films released in 2004: Yes; The Notebook, based on the Nicholas Sparks novel;and The Bourne Supremacy, based on the Robert Ludlum novel and starring Matt Damon. The Upside of Anger with Kevin Costner was her 2005 feature.
