The Academy Awards
The Oscars®, awarded annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts
and Sciences, showcase the best in movies and couture and always stir
controversy. The awards honor films released in the previous year. For
example, the 1999 awards were handed out in 2000. The 5,000-plus members
of AMPAS select nominees and then vote for the winner in a secret
ballot.
