São João de Meriti

São João de Meriti (souN zhwouN ħĭ mərēˈtĭ, də mĭrētēˈ) [key], city (1990 est. pop. 508,200), Rio de Janeiro state, SE Brazil, a residential suburb northwest of the city of Rio de Janeiro. It has some light industry. Most of the labor force commutes to Rio.
