Georgia, country, Asia: Government

Georgia is governed under the constitution of 1995 as amended. The president, who is a largely ceremonial head of state, is elected by an electoral college (beginning in 2024) to a five-year term. The prime minister is head of government and is responsible to the Parliament. The unicameral legislature consists of the 150-seat Parliament; 120 members are elected on a proportional basis and 30 are directly elected by districts. All serve five-year terms. Administratively, the country is divided into nine regions, one city, and two autonomous republics.
