Chicoutimi, city, Canada

Chicoutimi shĭko͞oˈtĭmēˌ [key], city, S Que., Canada, at the confluence of the Chicoutimi and Saguenay rivers. The city is the cultural and economic center of the Saguenay area. It has aluminum plants, pulp, paper, and textile mills, and it produces wrought iron and leather goods. A Jesuit mission was established there in 1676. In the city is a branch of the Université de Québec.
