Cerignola

Cerignola chārēnyôˈlä [key], city, Apulia, S Italy. It is an agricultural center and a transportation junction. The city suffered a severe earthquake in 1731 and was largely rebuilt. Nearby, in 1503, the Spanish under Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba defeated the French under Louis XII (see Italian Wars).
