Borinage

Borinage (bôrēnäzhˈ) [key], region, Hainaut prov., S Belgium, surrounding Mons and extending to the French border. Traditionally a coal-mining district, most of the mines have been closed. Glass-making and metallurgy are the region's primary industries.
