Welland (wel'und) [key], city (1991 pop. 47,914), SE Ont., Canada, on the Welland Ship Canal. It is a canal port and an industrial center. Cotton, iron, steel, and many other goods are made in Welland. The city is also a distribution center for a fruit-growing area
