The city is a distribution center for farms and orchards of the Willamette valley and has numerous warehouse facilities. Among its varied manufactures are apparel, furniture, and fabricated metal products. Fruit trees brought there from Iowa by covered wagon in 1848 inaugurated the state's important cherry-growing industry.
