Fargo

Fargo, city (2020 pop. 125,990), seat of Cass co., E N.Dak., at the head of navigation on the Red River, opposite Moorhead, Minn.; inc. 1875. A railroad hub and regional financial and medical center, Fargo is also the trade and distribution center of a spring-wheat and livestock region. Manufactures include computer software, farm tools, agricultural products, and transportation equipment. The city was founded (1871) with the coming of the Northern Pacific RR and named for William G. Fargo of Wells, Fargo & Company. In the city are North Dakota State Univ. and historical museums. The nearby suburb of West Fargo has stockyards and meatpacking plants.
