Washington, University of

Washington, University of, at Seattle; state supported; coeducational; chartered and opened 1861 as the Territorial Univ. of Washington, renamed 1889. There are noted schools of medicine and engineering, and the university operates laboratories for the marine sciences. Also of note is the Washington State Museum, which is located on campus and houses collections in natural history and anthropology. University publications include American Journal of Human Genetics, Journal of Limnology and Oceanography, and Pacific Northwest Quarterly.
