Taschereau, Elzéar Alexandre

Taschereau, Elzéar Alexandre ĕlzāärˈ älĕksäNˈdrə täshərōˈ [key], 1820–98, Canadian Roman Catholic cardinal, b. Quebec prov. He served the Quebec seminary for nearly 30 years, as professor, director, and superior. In 1871 he was made archbishop of Quebec; in 1886 he was created cardinal, the first Canadian to be so honored.
