Sobhuza IISobhuza II (sōbōˈzə) [key], 1899–1982, king of Swaziland (1921–82). He became paramount chief of the Swazi in 1921, after a 22-year regency, and was recognized as king by Great Britain when Swaziland was granted (1967) internal self-government. He continued to reign after Swaziland became independent in 1968. In 1973 he repealed the 1968 constitution, assuming supreme power. The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th ed.
