Koninck, Philips de

Koninck or Coningh, Philips de fēˈlĭps də kōˈnĭngk, kōˈnĭng [key], 1619–88, Dutch landscape and portrait painter. His panoramic landscapes, rich and warm in tone, suggest dramatic atmosphere and space. They are among the best in the Dutch landscape tradition. A number of his drawings have been preserved. Koninck's paintings include Entrance to a Forest and Landscape (both: Rijksmus.), Landscape with Hunting Party (National Gall., London), and a landscape in the Metropolitan Museum.
