Gogarty, Oliver St. John

Gogarty, Oliver St. John gōˈgərtē [key], 1878–1957, Irish author. A physician, he also served (1922–36) in the parliament of the Irish Free State. Gogarty is perhaps best known as the model for Buck Mulligan in James Joyce's Ulysses. As I Was Going down Sackville Street (1937) and It Isn't This Time of Year at All! (1954) contain reminiscences of Joyce, Yeats, and others in the Irish literary renaissance.
