Fréron, Élie

Fréron, Élie ālēˈ frārôNˈ [key], 1718–76, French critic and journalist. His critical journal, Année littéraire, virulently attacked the philosophes of the Enlightenment. Voltaire made him a butt of his ridicule in several of his works.
