Fouqué, Friedrich Heinrich Karl, Baron de La Motte-

Fouqué, Friedrich Heinrich Karl, Baron de La Motte- frēˈdrĭkh hīnˈrĭkh kärl bärōnˈ də lä môt-fo͞okāˈ [key], 1777–1843, German poet and novelist. He wrote many chivalric romances, tales, and plays based on Norse mythology. He is chiefly remembered, however, for his fairy tale of the nymph who had no soul, Undine (1811), of which there have been innumerable editions in English.
