Figueras, Estanislao

Figueras, Estanislao āstäˌnēsläˈō fēgāˈräs [key], 1819–82, Spanish politician. After the overthrow (1868) of Isabella II, he became leader of the Republican party. He opposed King Amadeus and, after the latter's abdication (1873), was briefly president of Spain's short-lived first republic. He retired to private life when the monarchy was restored (1875).
