Casa, Giovanni della [key], 1503–56, Italian cleric and poet. He was archbishop of Benevento and papal nuncio to Venice. He wrote lyric verse, a life of Bembo, and a treatise on etiquette, the Galateo (1558, tr. 1576 and 2013), which advises good manners for their own sake and to avoid offending others, and uses aesthetic principles as a standard for behavior. Some of his verse has great dignity and formal beauty while other examples of his poetry are quite salacious in content.
