Los Gatos

Los Gatos (lôs gä'tōs, los, găt'us) [key], city (1990 pop. 27,357), Santa Clara co., W Calif.; inc. 1887. It is an affluent residential community and health resort. Electronic components and computer peripherals are produced, fruits and vegetables are grown, and there is winemaking. Los Gatos, Spanish for “the cats,” got its name from the wildcats that abounded in the Santa Clara valley at the time the city was founded.
