Lorain

Lorain (lôrān') [key], city (1990 pop. 71,245), Lorain co., N Ohio, on Lake Erie at the mouth of the Black River; inc. 1834. Once an important ore-shipping point, Lorain has shipyards, steelworks, automobile-assembly plants, and commercial fisheries. Its port activities, once integral to the city's economy, have declined in bulk and importance over the years. Power equipment, building materials, navigation equipment, and toys are among the manufactures. Lorain also has numerous boating facilities.
