Guayama

Guayama (gwäyä'mä) [key], town (1990 pop. 41,588), SE Puerto Rico, founded 1736. It is a growing processing and distribution center for a region producing sugarcane, tobacco, coffee, and livestock. Guayama has been noted for its developments in irrigation, which have increased agricultural production, as well as in electrification.
