It passed under the control of the Seljuk Turks in the 13th cent. and in the 15th cent. was annexed by the Ottoman Empire. Situated on a steep cliff, Antalya is a picturesque city surrounded by many ancient ruins; there is a notable archaeological museum. With its airport it is a gateway for S Turkey's coastal resorts.
