Three Holes in the Wall
(The), to which Macaulay alluded in his speech, September 20th,
1831, are three holes or niches in a ruined mound in the borough of Old
Sarum, which before the Reform sent two members to Parliament. Lord
John Russell (March, 1831) referred to the same anomaly. (See Notes
and Queries, March 14th, 1885, p. 213.)
