Lavolt
or Lavolta. (French, la volte.) A lively dance,
in which was a good deal of jumping or capering, whence its name.
Troilus says, “I cannot sing, nor heel the high lavolt” (iv. 4). It is
thus described:
A lofty jumping or a leaping round,
Where arm in arm two dancers are entwined.
And whirl themselves with strict embracements bound.
And still their feet an anapest do sound
