Induction(Latin, the act of leading in). When a clergyman is inducted to a living he is led to the church door, and the ring which forms the handle is placed in his hand. The door being opened, he is next led into the church, and the fact is announced to the parish by tolling the bell. Source: Dictionary of Phrase and Fable, E. Cobham Brewer, 1894
