(Sir Charles). The union of a Christian and a gentleman.
Richardson's novel so called. Sir Walter Scott calls Sir Charles “the
faultless monster that the world ne'er saw.” Robert Nelson, reputed
author of the Whole Duty of Man, was the prototype.
