Winston Cup series driver in his third full season; killed during qualifying at New Hampshire International Raceway; in his first season with Felix Sabates' Team SABCO, replacing Joe Nemechek in the No. 42 car; at the time of his death was 28th in points with one top-five and one top-10 finish in 17 starts in 2000; best season was 1999 with two top-five finishes, six top-10s and a career-best third place at the Daytona 500; picked to drive the Robert Yates No. 28 Ford in 1998 and won rookie of the year honors; first rookie to top $1 million mark; Craftsman Truck Series rookie of the year in 1997. He died from multiple injuries sustained in the crash. Died: Louden, N.H., July 7
