Joined the family brewing business, Anheuser-Busch, and became its president in 1946. During his tenure, which lasted until 1975, the company was transformed from a small family business to the world's largest brewery through the art of market segmentation and nationwide advertising. One of his best known promotions were the Budweiser Clydesdale horses. He acquired the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team in 1953.
