Edgar Allan Poe

Poet, short-story writer and critic considered the father of the modern detective story and one of the most brilliant writers in American literature. His works, written with a passionate intensity, were marked by dreamlike, macabre prose and include The Fall of the House of Usher (1839), The Murders in the Rue Morgue (1841) and The Raven and Other Poems (1845).
